Kitchen

I have never before appreciated a kitchen as much as I do in our current apartment. I'm sitting at the kitchen table right now, watching the sun peak through the tree outside our window, the tree with its leaves just starting to go orange. As the wind blows through the tree, it makes the leaves' shadows dance across the wall next to me.

Our kitchen is nothing really out of the ordinary. The floor is kinda ugly, the cabinets are old and basic. But it has a lot of counter space, a full oven, lots of cabinets, a pantry, and a double sink. Lots of space. John and I lived in a basement apartment in Fort Collins, and we basically had a kitchenette. Small sink (until we upgraded ourselves), no real counter space (until we bought an island), no oven, just two plug-in burners. It did have lots of shelf space, which saved us, but we had to be very creative with how we set up the space - setting up a shelf over the fridge for our pots and pans, another shelf high above us for our fondue set and other things we didn't use so often, and a little rod with a small shelf from Ikea for our serving/cooking spoons and spices.

We loved our little kitchenette, always reminding ourselves that it can always be worse.

But now, we get the use of a full kitchen. It's amazing how much more fun it is to cook and bake, even do the dishes! We are so grateful for our little kitchen that is so big and wonderful to us!

And now, time for a latte.

  1. Yay for nice kitchens :) Our first apartment had a little galley kitchen with no window, and while the counter space and cabinet space was nice... it was not a place we would be unless we were cooking. Kind of claustrophobic feeling. And windows make ALL the difference!!!

And I made a latte, too ;) Yuuummmmmmm!
